Neighbourhood and Community Centres

The Shared Commitment to Collaboration for Neighbourhood and Community Centres in NSW (PDF, 2.8 MB)(Shared Commitment) is a commitment from the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), Local Community Services Association (LCSA) and Neighbourhood and Community Centres (NCCs) to work together for strong, vibrant local communities in NSW.

The Shared Commitment’s purpose

The purpose of this Shared Commitment between DCJ and LCSA is to:

1. Strengthen our partnership
2. Embed genuine community development practice in government processes between government and community organisations, and between government and communities.

It speaks to a shared vision for NCCs to be recognised for their extraordinary social value and place as part of an essential social infrastructure network, and as service providers. It recognises the way community development is used by NCCs to address social issues from the ‘bottom up’ – aiming to do things with people, rather than for people or to them.

The Shared Commitment includes 15 commitments that aim to foster a strong relationship between DCJ and LCSA and promote cooperation to achieve positive outcomes for NCCs and their communities.
