The Maliyan Program is open to Aboriginal law graduates and students. It offers recent graduates two years of paid employment, and students 12 month, part time paid cadetship positions.
Participants will work alongside legal professionals in the Law Reform and Legal Services division (LRLS) of the department to gain legal experience across a broad range of areas in community support and justice initiatives.
Under the program, participants have the unique opportunity to contribute directly to improving the lives of the members of the NSW community and supporting Aboriginal communities throughout NSW.
Participants will have the support of a mentor throughout the program, and to apply for permanent roles within the LRLS division and broader department.
The majority of roles will be available within the following teams of the LRLS division:
There may be opportunities within other teams throughout the program should these be an area of interest.
Participants receive a competitive salary.
The Maliyan Program provides opportunities for paid employment in a graduate or cadetship program for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander law graduates and students.

Please note that at DCJ we commonly use the word "Aboriginal", recognising that Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants of NSW, the part of Australia we are responsible for. We acknowledge and respect that Torres Strait Islander people are among the First Nations of Australia and that both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are an important part of our staff and the communities we work with.
