Child Protection Assessment Policy

What’s this about?

The Comprehensive Approaches to Child Protection Assessment Policy discussion paper marks an important step towards improving the child protection system in NSW. It seeks feedback on how DCJ approaches key decision-making points under the Children and Young Person’s (Care and Protection) Act 1998 (Care Act). The discussion paper is intended to facilitate policy co-design by gathering diverse insights that will help shape a Child Protection Assessment Policy. This policy will establish a consistent framework for statutory child protection decision-making, guiding the assessment and response to concerns about the safety and well-being of children and young people. All tools, guidelines and other resources will align with these policy principles and directives. Stakeholder input is essential to ensure the policy reflects the needs of NSW. By engaging with this discussion paper, you can help shape a policy that will have a positive impact on the child protection system and the wellbeing of children in NSW
