Evaluation repository

Evaluation is a key tool to support evidence-based decision-making in government. It forms a vital part of the Commissioning process, helping us to understand whether what we are doing is working. Robust evaluation can lead to improved program design, implementation and impact.

DCJ is building an evaluation repository to improve access to DCJ evaluation reports and findings.

Family Group Conferencing Evaluation - Final Report Nov 2022 (PDF, 2.2 MB)

Family group conferencing (FGC) is a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) that seeks to engage extended family in decision-making processes and strengthen partnerships between families and the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ). The FGC program has been progressively implemented across NSW since the program was piloted in 2011.

In 2019, DCJ commissioned the Research Centre for Children and Families (RCCF), at the University of Sydney, to undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the FGC program. The evaluation of FGC examined the extent to which the program has achieved its stated goals and outcomes.

The final evaluation report (PDF, 2.2 MB) presents details of the evaluation methods, the evaluation findings and recommendations.

A summary of the evaluation findings (PDF, 1.1 MB) and a practice note (PDF, 6.5 MB) are also available.
