Policy for the release of information relating to the Royal prerogative of mercy and reviews of conviction or sentence under the Crimes (Appeal and Review) Act 2001

In late 2017, the Attorney General directed a review into the procedures around petitions for the Royal prerogative of mercy and petitions for review of convictions or sentences made under section 76 of the Crimes (Appeal and Review) Act 2001.

Following the review and public consultation, the Government has designed a policy providing for the release of information (DOCX, 106.6 KB). The policy will be fully implemented following legislative amendment of privacy rules in the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998, the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002, and the Criminal Records Act 1991.
